Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Patches Holdings B.V. for your use of Patches. Using Patches means you accept them. They are written to be read, so if something here is unclear, ask us — the address is at the bottom, and an unclear term is our problem to fix.

1. What Patches is

You can choose a ready-made app or describe one you want — a way to track something, keep something, or be reminded of something — and Patches runs it for you. The apps are meant to be small and disposable. The data you put in them is not: you can export an app’s data before deleting it. Deleting an app deletes its data, so export anything you want to keep first.

2. Your account

You need an account, it is yours alone, and you are responsible for what happens under it — so keep your sign-in method to yourself. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into it.

You must be at least 16 to have an account. Patches is not built for children and we do not knowingly keep accounts for them.

3. What it costs

Patches is free to use today, and there is nothing to cancel. There are limits on how much you can build and connect; where a limit applies, the app tells you what it is rather than failing quietly.

If we introduce paid plans, we will say what they cost, what you get, how billing works and how to cancel before you pay for anything. Nothing in these terms lets us start charging you for something you already have.

4. Your apps and your content

Everything you put into Patches stays yours: the rows, the photos, the documents, the notes, and the apps you describe. We do not claim ownership of any of it.

To actually run the service we need your permission to store your content, to process it in order to do the things you asked for — building an app, reading a receipt out of a photo, sending you a reminder, showing an app to someone you shared it with — and to show it back to you. That permission lasts while we hold the content to provide the service, and afterwards only as needed for the backup and legal-retention purposes described in the Privacy Policy. We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not sell it.

5. Accounts you connect

Some apps fill themselves in from a mailbox or a file store you connect. When you connect one, you are telling us we may read what that connection covers, for the purpose of the app you connected it to. You can disconnect at any time from Profile → My Connections, and we stop reading immediately.

Only connect accounts you are entitled to connect, and remember that a shared mailbox contains other people's messages as well as yours.

6. Sharing an app

You can share an app with other people, or send someone their own copy of it. Deciding who to share with is your call, and so is what that reveals: a shared app shows the people you shared it with what is in it. You can revoke a share at any time, though we cannot recall what someone has already seen or copied.

7. What AI gets wrong

Patches uses AI to build your apps and to pull structured information out of text, photos and documents. It gets things wrong. A subscription tracker populated from your inbox will usually be mostly right and occasionally mistaken — that is a deliberate trade, because a list you can correct is more useful than an empty screen that is technically flawless.

So: check anything that matters before you rely on it. We do not warrant that what an app extracts, calculates or reminds you of is accurate or complete.

8. Using it fairly

Don't use Patches to:

• break the law, or store material that is illegal to hold;
• collect or keep other people's personal information without a proper reason;
• attack, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service, or work around its limits;
• resell it, or run it on someone else's behalf as your own product;
• send anyone unwanted messages using its sharing or reminder features.

If you do any of this we may suspend or close your account. Where the problem is fixable we will tell you what it is first, unless doing so would be unlawful or would put someone at risk.

9. What Patches is not for

Patches is not a system of record. Don't make it the only place something important lives, and don't use it as the basis for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions. A reminder is a convenience, not a guarantee: notifications depend on your device, your browser and your network, and any of them can fail without us knowing.

10. Availability and changes

Patches is early software. It will have outages, and features will be added, changed and removed. We do not promise any level of uptime. If we are going to remove something you rely on, or shut the service down, we will give you reasonable notice and time to export your data first.

11. Getting your data out, and leaving

Any app's data can be exported as a CSV or JSON file whenever you like — you do not need to ask us, and you do not need a reason. You can delete an app, and you can close your account by writing to us at the address below. Closing your account deletes your apps and their data; what we keep after that, and for how long, is set out in the Privacy Policy.

12. Liability

Patches is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those the law gives you and does not let us exclude. To the extent the law permits, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits or lost data, or for anything arising from your reliance on something an app got wrong.

Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, the protections your local law gives you apply whatever these terms say.

13. Changes to these terms

We will update these terms from time to time. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you before it takes effect — in the app or by email — and the date at the top of this page always says which version you are reading. If you do not accept a change, close your account; continuing to use Patches after it takes effect means you accept it.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, and disputes may be brought before the courts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, you keep the protection of your own country's mandatory consumer law and may also bring a claim in your own courts.

Before any of that, please write to us. Most things are a misunderstanding and we would rather fix it than argue about it.
